Rain breaks hot spell in Uttar Pradesh

Rainfall of 2 cm was recorded in Chandradeepghat and Khairagarh, while 1 cm of rain drenched Ghazipur, Azamgarh and Bagpath, the Met office here said.

While the day temperatures fell in Gorakhpur, Faizabad and Varanasi divisions, the mercury remained steady in other parts of the state.

Temperatures were markedly above normal in Kanpur, Allahabad, Bareilly, Lucknow, Moradabad and Meerut divisions and appreciably above normal in Jhansi and Agra divisions.

Allahabad recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 45.9 degrees Celsius.

The Met department has forecast rain or thundershowers in some parts of the state in the next 24 hours.
