The third and final Twenty20 International between India and South Africa has been delayed due to heavy afternoon showers at Eden Gardens, here today.

"There will be an official inspection by the match officials -- umpires A K Chaudhary and Vineet Kulkarni and Match Referee Chris Broad -- at 7.30pm after which they will decide on the start," the official match scorer said.

The scheduled start of play was at 7pm.

The wicket remained under cover pretty much till the scheduled toss time as the stands remained mainly empty following heavy rains in the afternoon.

Even both the team players stayed away from the field while groundsmen were busy in drying the field with two super-soppers.

South Africa have already pocketed the three-match series 2-0 after their wins in Dharamasala and Cuttack.
