Possibility of moderate to heavy rain in Gangetic West Bengal may prove to be a spoilsport for the much-awaited FIFA U-17 World Cup matches slated to be held at the Salt Lake Stadium here this evening.

The Met department has forecast heavy rain in isolated places of Gangetic West Bengal till Tuesday morning owing to the formation of a cyclonic circulation in north Bay of Bengal and its neighbourhood, which has intensified into a low pressure.

"The cyclonic circulation has intensified into a low pressure and is likely to persist till tomorrow," Regional Met director G K Das said.

"Owing to the low pressure, there is possiblity of few spells of moderate rain in Kolkata till tomorrow," Das said.

Heavy rain is likely in some pockets of Gangetic West Bengal, Das said.

The sky will remain cloudy and day temperature is likely to hover around 30 degrees Celsius.

The Salt Lake stadium will hold the first two matches of Group F of the FIFA U-17 World Cup before a sold-out crowd this evening.

While England will take on their Latin American rivals Chile, Iraq will play against Mexico in the other match.
