Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) today said its mining activities have been affected following excessive rainfall in Cuddalore district since yesterday.
On account of this, there has been lower power generation in all linked power stations.
"As per the weather report, further downpour and cyclonic storm are expected for the next 24 hours. Since Neyveli mines are open cast mines, the mining activities have been affected due to rainfall resulting in lower power generation in all linked power stations," NLC said in a filing to BSE.
Pumping out of excess water from the mines is in progress, the company said adding that the contingency and disaster management plans are in place and mining operation and power generation are expected to be restored shortly.
"This is not an unusual occurrence as this occurs usually during North-east monsoon between October and December every year," the company added.
