Press Trust of India Lucknow
Moderate to heavy rainfall and thundershowers occurred at isolated places in eastern Uttar Pradesh today, bringing the mercury down in a welcome relief from scorching weather.

Patti recorded 5-cm rainfall while showers in Sultanpur measured 3-cm. Lalgunj (2-cm) and Pratapgarh, Phoolpur and Kunda (1-cm each) were some of the other places which received rainfall.

MeT office said that day temperatures were below normal in, among others, the Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Faizabad, Kanpur, Allahabad and Lucknow divisions although the mercury rose in Varanasi division.

The highest temperature in the state was recorded at Moradabad at 38.2 degrees Celsius, a far cry from the 43.4 degrees reported yesterday in Etawah.

The MeT office has predicted more rainfall/thundershowers at one or two places in eastern UP, although the western parts of the state were likely to continue experiencing dry weather.
