Rain lashes Haryana, Punjab; mercury drops

Rain lashed several parts of Haryana and Punjab giving respite to people from hot weather conditions.

Maximum temperature also dropped several notches below normal in various parts of both the states.

According to the MeT department here, areas which witnessed rainfall were Chandigarh (76.4 mm), Ambala (38.1 mm), Karnal (39 mm), Ludhiana (4.4 mm) and Patiala (19.2 mm).

Union Territory Chandigarh recorded a maximum of 31 degrees Celsius, down by four notches below normal while humidity level in the city was 98 per cent.

Among other areas in Punjab, Amritsar settled at 35.8 degrees Celsius while Ludhiana and Patiala recorded maximum at 32.8 degrees Celsius and 30.6 degrees Celsius respectively, down by up to four notches below normal.
 

In Haryana, maximum temperature in Ambala was 30.9 degrees Celsius, four motches below normal. Bhiwani, Hisar, Karnal and Narnaul recorded their maximums at 35.6 degrees Celsius, 36.1 degrees Celsius, 30.6 degrees Celsius and 35 degrees Celsius respectively.

The department predicted moderate to heavy rainfall at isolated places in Punjab and Haryana in the next 24 hours.
