Rains lashed many parts of Kashmir Valley, including Srinagar, providing respite to the people from the scorching heat.

The overnight rainfall, resulting in a dip in temperature by several notches, brought relief from the heat wave conditions prevalent in the Valley for over a week.

Srinagar, which recorded a maximum of 33 degrees Celsius on June 25, received a rainfall of 8.2 mm during the night, while the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg received 10.2 mm of rains, a MET Department spokesman said.

He said Pahalgam, in south Kashmir, which serves as a base camp for Amaranth Yatra, received 8.0 mm of rainfall till 8:30 in the morning.

Kupwara and Kokernag received 7.0 and 0.5 mm of rainfall respectively, he added.

The weatherman predicted more rains during the next three days.

"Rainfall would be moderate but widespread in the Valley till June 30," the spokesman said.
