Rain, snowfall displace families, damage structures

Over a dozen families were displaced and 51 cattle perished as recent heavy rain and snowfall has damaged 13 structures in different parts of Kashmir valley, police said today.

Seven residential houses and five cowsheds collapsed after the earth caved in at village Laridoora in Chandoosa area of north Kashmir's Baramulla district yesterday, a police spokesperson said.

Thirteen families had a narrow escape in the incident and were evacuated to safety, he said, adding 51 cattle, however, got perished.

He said two more residential houses, one each at Beighpora village of Awantipora in south Kashmir's Pulwama district and Doompora-Lalpora in north Kashmir's Kupwara district, also got damaged.
 

However, no loss of human lives were reported in these incidents, he added.

The weather today improved across the Valley today after a fresh spell of heavy snowfall on Monday and Tuesday.
