Rain returned to stop England's runchase against Australia in the crucial encounter of the Champions trophy at Edgbaston here today.

Chasing 278 to win, England were comfortably placed at 240-4 in 40.2 overs when heavens opened up, forcing the umpires to stop the proceedings here.

This is the second time that rain interrupted the game. Earlier, England were 35-3 in 6 overs when showers had interrupted the game and play was stopped for about 40 minutes here.

England require another 38 runs with 6 wickets and 58 balls remaining.

Rain affected Australia's campaign at the Champions Trophy as both their previous matches were washed out, leaving them with just 2 points from as many matches.

England are currently 36 runs ahead of the DLS par score of 204 for 3.
