Vehicular movement was affected in many parts of Dakshina Kannada (DK) district following heavy rains that lashed the region in the last two days.

The Kumaradhara bridge, connecting link to the temple town of Kukke Subrahmanya, was submerged yesterday, for the first time since the onset of monsoon this year, official sources said.

The bridge got submerged in the morning due to heavy rainfall in the Western Ghats and water started receding only in the evening.

Devotees to the Subhramanya temple were put to hardship and police prevented a few people who tried to wade through the water to cross through the bridge, after the traffic was stopped. The alternate bridge here is under construction which is 15 ft above the existing bridge.

The rise in water level at the Hosmata bridge near the city also affected traffic between Kadaba and Uppinangady for a few hours, the sources said.

Meteorological department sources said the DK district had received 584.6 mm rain in June.
