Rains bring relief in Punjab, Haryana

Heat wave conditions relented in Punjab and Haryana as rains accompanied by thunderstorm lashed several parts of the region in the past 24 hours.

Maximum temperatures today hovered around 40 degree Celsius-level at most places in both the states, though humidity made people sweat, MeT department said here.

Chandigarh recorded a high of 37.8 deg C, one degree below normal, it said. The city received 34.3 mm rainfall in the past 24 hours.

Amritsar in Punjab had the highest maximum temperature at 41.4 deg C, a degree above normal.

Ludhiana and Patiala had maximum temperatures of 40.5 deg C and 40 deg C, a degree above normal. Patiala recorded marginal rainfall of 0.2 mm.
 

In neighbouring Haryana, Ambala recorded maximum temperature at 37.5 deg C. It received rainfall of 24.7 mm in the past 24 hours. Karnal recorded a high of 38 deg C and received 9.4 mm rainfall.

Hisar, Narnaul and Bhiwani recorded maximum temperatures of 40.3 deg C, 39.5 deg C and 40 deg C, respectively.

The MeT department has predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers at isolated places in Punjab and Haryana in the next 24 hours.
