Rains claim 6 lives in Rajasthan

Six persons, including two children, were today killed in rain-related incidents in Rajasthan where over 100 persons have been rescued from various rain-hit regions.

"Two women were swept away by flooded waters in Udaipur. As many men were killed in Pali. A 14-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl died in Jalore in rain-related incidents today," Hemant Gera, Secretary-Disaster Management and Relief Department, told PTI.

He said 85 people were rescued in Sirohi and several others in Jalore region in a joint operation by the IAF, Army, NDRF and SDRF teams.

A total of 19 people were rescued by helicopters in Jalore, he said.
 

Defence spokesperson Lt Col Manish Ojha said that the Army rescued 59 people in Jalore, Pali and Barmer during the last 24 hours.

Gera said that packets of food and drinking water bottles have been distributed in areas facing flood-like situation.

According to the MeT, extremely heavy rainfall was reported at isolated areas in Jodhpur amd Udaipur divisions during the last 24 hours. It added that another spell of heavy downpour is likely in next 24 hours.
