Rains continue to lash UP, rivers in spate

Uttar Pradesh continued to receive rainfall as moderate to rather heavy showers lashed various parts of the state today, with reports of heavy rains from some places.

All major rivers including Ganga, Yamuna, Sharda, Ghahghra, Rapti, Burhi Rapti and Quano were in spate and flowing above the danger level at many places.

According to a Central Water Commission report, Ganga was flowing above the danger mark at Phaphamau, Chatnag, Mirzapur, Varanasi, Gazipur and Ballia.

Yamuna river at Naini, Sharda at Palia Kalan, Ghaghra at Elgin Bridge and Turtipar, Rapti at Balrampur, Burhi Rapti at Kakrahi and Quano river at Chandradeep Ghat were flowing above the red mark.
 

The MeT department said Rath received the maximum 25 cm of rainfall, followed by Garotha 14 cm, Agra 13 cm, Auraiya, Mathura and Katerniaghat 9 cm each, Kanpur, Moth and Mauranipur 7 cm each, Jhansi 6 cm, and Unnao, Palliakalan, Purwa, Hasanganj 5 cm each.

Rain and thundershowers are likely to occur at many places during the next 24 hours, the MeT forecast said.
