Rains drench North

North keeping mercury close to normal level in the region, with river Ganga in Uttar Pradesh showing rising trend at various stretches.

Heavy rains lashed national capital affecting vehicular traffic at major intersections.

Rain gauges recorded 17.2 mm rainfall while the humidity oscillated between 64 per cent and 95 per cent, the Met office said.

Rains and thundershowers occurred at few places over Western and Eastern parts of UP.

Agra received 5 mm rainfall, while Gunnaur and Sultanpur each recorded 4 mm rains.

Central Water Commission sources here said most of the rivers were either receding or maintaining static level barring Ganga, which was showing rising trend from Dalmau to Ballia.

 

Sharda at Palia Kalan, Ghaghra at Elgin Bridge and Burrhi Rapti at Kakrahi were still flowing at the red mark, sources said.

Several parts of Rajasthan witnessed rains with Chittorgarh receiving a maximum of 31 mm rainfall followed by Churu at 23 mm.

Ajmer, Kota, Vanasthali, Dabok, Jaipur and Jodhpur received 18 mm, 12.6 mm, 11.3 mm, 8.6 mm, 4.4 mm and 2.9 mm rains respectively today, according to Met department here.

After witnessing rains for last few days, most parts of Punjab and Haryana today remained dry as maximum temperatures settled few notches above normal levels.

Amritsar registered a high of 33.8 deg C even after being lashed by rains.

Chandigarh recorded a high of 35.7 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal, the MeT said here. Ambala in Haryana recorded a high of 35.8 deg C, up three degrees while Hisar's high settled at 34 deg C.
