Rains, dust storm bring temperature down in Delhi

Rains lashed the city today after a massive dust storm in the afternoon, bringing much-awaited respite to Delhiites reeling under hot weather conditions for the past several days.

The strong dust storm, with wind gusts upto 84 km/hr, accompanied by rains swept across the city bringing the temperatures down. The Meteorological Department has recorded 4.8 mm of rain so far.

"Temperatures came down below the 40 degrees Celsius mark as maximum temperature settled at 39.7 degrees Celsius, which is one notch above season's average. Minimum temperature during the day was recorded at 29.0 degrees Celsius," MeT Department officials said.

Humidity levels oscillated between 82-34 per cent.
 

The MeT Department has forecast pleasant weather in the city for the next couple of days. "It will be a partly cloudy sky with spells of light rain and thunderstorm in some part of the city," officials said.

The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 38 and 29 degrees Celsius respectively tomorrow.

Reports of a tree being uprooted and power lines getting snapped in some areas of the national capital were also received.

A Delhi Police officer was injured in a tree collapse incident during the dust storm in Hauz Khaz area of the city.

Strong winds and rains affected the flight schedule as 16 flights were diverted between 2:30 pm to 4 pm due to bad weather. Airport official said it included 13 domestic and three international flights.

Due to rains, several areas of Delhi-NCR had to face water-logging problem and the traffic remained slow.
