Rains hit Nashik district, two dead

Unseasonal rains accompanied by stormy winds and thunder hit the Nashik district last night, causing death of two persons and two bulls.

Tehsils of Niphad, Chandvad, Devla, Yeola, Baglan and Malegaon had showers, collector's office said.

Chindhu Dulaji Gangurde (65), resident of Khadakmal in Niphad tehsil, died after the roof of his house collapsed in the storm.

Bhausaheb Shankar Shevale, resident of Tisgaon in Devla tehsil, was killed when the lightning struck him.

Two bulls were killed in lightning strike at village Konkankhede in Chandvad tehsil.

Niphad recorded 14.4 mm rain, Yeola 13.7 mm, Chandvad 10.3 mm, Baglan 9.7 mm and Malegaon 7 mm.
 

Across reservoirs in Nashik district -- seven major and 16 medium -- a total of 11,109 mcft water stock (17 per cent of full capacity) is available.
