Rains in parts of UP; major rivers in spate

Light to moderate rains and thundershowers occurred in parts of Uttar Pradesh while major rivers, specially the Ganga, the Sharda and the Rapti are in spate at various places in the state.

Mohamadabad and Bijnore received 6 cm rains each, while Varanasi and Bareilly both gauged 5 cm of rainfall, the MeT department said.

Chunar, Sahaswan, Baghpat, Atrauli received 4 cm rains each while Kaiamganj, Najibabad, Narora and Hamirpur recorded 3 cm of precipitation each.

According to the Central Water Commission, the Ganga river was flowing just under the red mark at Fatehgarh and was maintaining a rising trend between Allahabad and Varanasi.
 

The Sharda river was flowing well above the danger mark at Palia Kalan and was rising. It was flowing near the red mark at Shardanagar, Central Water Commission officials said.

The Ghaghra river has crossed the red mark at Elgin Bridge and was flowing near the danger mark at Ayodhya and Turtipar, they said, adding the Rapti river too was flowing near the red mark at Balrampur.
