Rains lash Delhi, bring some respite from heat

Highest rainfall in Delhi for any day in April in the last five years accompanied by thunderstorm kept the mercury within normal levels, making it a pleasant day for Delhiites.

According to the Safdarjung observatory, whose recording is considered the official for the city, the city recorded 24.6 mm rainfall over a period of 24 hours till 8.30 AM today, the highest in a day in April in the last five years, a MeT department official said.

Areas under Palam, Ridge, Ayanagar and Lodhi Road recorded 14.2 mm, 0.8 mm, 76 mm and 26.2 mm rainfall during the same period.
 

The maximum temperature today settled at 34.5 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year while the minimum temperature was pegged at 20.1 degrees Celsius, a notch above the season's average.

After the rains, the temperature fell down and was recorded at 29 degrees Celsius at 6.30 pm.

The humidity level oscillated between 89 to 36 per cent.

The MeT Office has forecast mainly clear skies for tomorrow.

"The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover at 35 and 20 degrees respectively," the weatherman said.

Yesterday, the maximum temperature settled at 36.3 degrees Celsius while the minimum was recorded at 21.8 degrees Celsius.
