Rains lash UP, many rivers in spate

Rains continued to occur in Uttar Pradesh today as the monsoon remained normal over most parts of the state, particularly the eastern region.

Many major rivers flowing through the state are in spate at a number of places, a Central Water Commission report said.

Moderate to heavy rain or thundershowers occurred at few places over the state, with reports of heavy downpour at isolated places in eastern UP, the MeT department said.

Ghazipur received maximum 13 cm of rainfall, followed by Sultanpur 5, Najibabad 4, Basti, Ayodhya, Mahrajganj, Biswan, Varanasi and Mathura 3 each, and Baberu, Gonda, Tarabganj, Aurraiya, Budhana, Jalesar, Saradhana and Shahjahanpur 2 cm each.
 

According to a MeT forecast, rain or thundershowers may occur at many places, with possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated places during the next 48 hours.

Meanwhile, major rivers in the state including Ganga, Sharda and Ghaghra continued to flow above the danger mark at some places.

A Central Water commission report said Ganga continued to flow near the red mark at Fatehgarh, Kanpur Dehat, Gazipur and Kanpur, while it was flowing above the danger mark at Ballia.

While Sharda was flowing above the danger mark at Palia Kalan, Ghaghra was above danger level at Elgin Bridge and Turtipar.
