Rains resulted in crop losses worth Rs 742 cr: UP Govt

Uttar Pradesh government today informed the Centre that excessive rains have led to loss of crops worth Rs 742 crore in 31 districts of the state.

During a video-conferencing with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, UP Chief Secretary Alok Ranjan requested for the doubling of financial assistance to farmers in case of loss of crops, an official spokesman said here.

He also asked the Centre to send a team for assessment of losses so that relief is provided to farmers at the earliest.

The CS said that including state share Rs 200 crore has been released from the natural camality relief fund.
 

He also requested the Centre for construction of Rae Bareli-Allahabad Highway at the earliest and added that to accelerate national highway projects, a management group has been constituted at state level.

The CS said as against 24 state support agreements, 21 have been executed.

He also said a request letter has been sent for approval of schemes pending at the central level.
