The National Green Tribunal today directed Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to file a comprehensive status report stating as to how many metro stations have installed rainwater harvesting systems.
A bench, headed by Justice Swatanter Kumar, directed DMRC to file the status report within three weeks and posted the matter for hearing on December 5.
"DMRC shall file a comprehensive status report stating as to how many metro stations are there where rainwater harvesting system has not been provided and/or where provided the same is not fully operational," the bench said.

The Tribunal had earlier directed the Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA) and DMRC to conduct a joint inspection of 27 stations to see if rainwater harvesting systems (RWHS) can be set up there or not.
The inspection team had pointed out that rainwater harvesting systems in metro stations were non-functional and at a number of places they have been found to be used as dumping sites.
The Tribunal was hearing a plea by Vikrant Kumar Tongad who had sought directions to DMRC to "install proper rainwater harvesting system" on all its existing as well as proposed and under-construction metro stations, tracks and depots.
In his petition, Tongad had submitted if rainwater harvesting system is properly installed at all stations, tracks and depots of DMRC, about 6.37 crore litres of water can be saved.
