An assistant sub-inspector of the Rajasthan police was today arrested by the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a man in Atru town of Baran district.

The ASI, posted at the Atru police station, was caught accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a man for sorting out a matter related to illegal occupation of a plot in the town, Additional Superintendent of Police, ACB (Kota), Arun Macchya said.

The accused ASI had demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 from one Shafiqurrahman, a resident of Antah town, to evacuate the people who had illegally taken his land, he said.

Shafiqurrahman approached the ACB on October 12 and said that he had paid the bribe money of Rs 5,000 to the ASI and he was demanding another instalment to help him regain his land, Macchya said.

Subsequently, a trap was laid today and the accused ASI was caught accepting the remaining Rs 5,000 from the complainant, the officer said.

He said the accused would be produced before the ACB court here tomorrow.
