To curb illegal transportation of animals for slaughter, the Rajasthan Cabinet today cleared a proposal to include two sections in the Rajasthan Bovine Animals (Prohibition of slaughter and regulation of temporary migration or export) Act 1995.

The new sections include the provisions for seizing vehicles used in illegal transportation and for the arrest of persons caught transporting animals.

The amendments will be tabled in assembly and forwarded to the President for his consent after it is passed in the assembly, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rajendra Rathore said.

So far, there is no provision for seizing the vehicle and also for arrest, he added.

The vehicle will be seized as per the excise act and will be auctioned.

"Despite the act, illegal transportation of bovine animal for slaughter had been going on and the new sections will keep a check on it.

Apart from the arrest and seizing the vehicle, provisions for tougher punishments have also been made," Rathore said.
