Five persons have been arrested in connection with the suspected honour killing of a 28-year-old engineer last week, police said today.

The victim, Amit Nair, had married Mamta Chaudhary nearly two years ago against the wishes of his in-laws and was found shot dead at his residence here on May 17, police said.

"Nair's father-in-law, Jeewan Ram Chaudhary, was arrested from Haryana's Kaithal village and his mother-in-law, Bhagwani Devi, from Sikar," Jaipur Police Commissioner Sanjay Agarwal said in a press conference here.

He said a contract killer, Ravindra Shekhawat, has also been arrested in the case.

"Shekhawat had accepted Rs 3 lakh to kill Nair six months ago. However, he could not execute the murder as the victim was not at home," he said.

Apart from them, the police has arrested a former pradhan, Bhagwana Ram, from Losal and Nair's brother-in-law, Mukesh Chaudhary, the prime accused in the case, from Deedwana, Agarwal said.

All the arrests were made in the past eight days, he said, adding those who shot Nair are absconding.

"We will interrogate them to know about shooters," Agarwal said.

Meanwhile, Nair's wife demanded death penalty for all those found guilty, including her family members.

She said, "All of them should get no less than death penalty for their act.
