Raj govt gets NHRC notice

Taking suo moto cognisance of media reports of a child loosing his finger due to negligence of a government hospital in Rajasthan, National Human Rights Commission today asked the state government to file a report within four weeks.

The action came in the wake of an incident where a ward sweeper in the hospital tried to cut the adhesive tapes from an intra-venous device attached to the wrist of the child using a pair of scissors on instructions of a male nurse and in the process he chopped one off a finger of his right hand.

The commission has issued a notice to Rajasthan Health Secretary and Barmer SP to register a case of negligence by a government employee.
 

The Commission has observed that the content of the media report, if true, raises a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim, a statement said.
