Raj govt wants VVIP terminal at Jaipur airport,AAI offers land

Rajasthan government has requested for construction of a VVIP terminal at the Jaipur airport and the Airports Authority of India has offered land for the purpose, according to the civil aviation ministry.

AAI manages 125 airports and 25 civil enclaves at defence airfields, as per its website.

In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, minister of state for civil aviation Jayant Sinha said the AAI has received a request from Rajasthan government for construction of a VVIP terminal at the Jaipur airport.

"AAI has already offered 2.5 acres of land to the government of Rajasthan for this purpose," the minister said.
 

According to Sinha, state aircraft carrying state VIPs, including the chief minister and the governor, are operated from the state hangar.

"Other aircraft carrying VIPs and other passengers are being operated from terminal-2 at Jaipur airport," he added.

In 2015-16, Jaipur airport witnessed 22,772 domestic aircraft movements, data available on the AAI website showed.
