Rajasthan High Court has asked the state and central governments to present their replies on the issue of ban on manufacturing and storage of tobacco and its products.
The court, while seeking reply in six weeks, has expressed concern over the increasing number of deaths caused by the consumption of tobacco.
A division bench of justice Govind Mathur and justice Prakash Gupta, while admitting a PIL filed by a voluntary organisation LIBRA India, asked the AAG P S Bhati and Assistant Solicitor General A K Rajwanshi to present the sides of both state and central governments on the prohibition on tobacco products keeping in mind the gravity of the issue.
"Though, both the governments have taken certain measures to control the consumption of tobacco products in the country but still there was no effective control on its consumption," argued the petitioner and Managing Trustee of the organisation Sandeep Shah.
