The Rajasthan government has hiked the compensation for victims of acid attacks in the state by Rs 1 lakh, the Assembly was informed today.

Replying after a debate on grants for the Home and Jail departments, state Rural Development and Panchayti Raj Minister Gulabchand Kataria announced that the acid attack victims in the state will now get a compensation of Rs 3 lakh, instead of Rs 2 lakh.

He also announced a grant of Rs 225 lakh for Rajasthan Police Benevolent Fund, which was Rs 199 lakh last year. He said Rs 30 lakh will be given as Rajasthan Police Sports fund, an amount which is Rs 5 lakh more than last year.

The minister further informed the House that the training allowance of civil defence volunteers has been doubled from Rs 50 to Rs 100 per day and transport allowance from Rs 12 to Rs 20 per day.

Kataria also made other announcements for the modernisation of police force and its welfare.

Presenting the crime figures, the Minister claimed that the crime rate has come down in the last six months.

Comparing the current crime situation in the state with the situation during the Congress government, Kataria alleged that the crime rate was higher during the previous government.
