Hours after he was booked for his alleged role in the

clash between police and BJP workers, Ashok Kumar Sharma, ASI at Mahaveernagar police station, sought voluntary retirement.

"I am disappointed and puzzled by the mounting political pressure over police personnels and inaction by the government against the same. I have decided to seek voluntary retirement from the services," he said.

Sharma, who joined the Rajasthan Police Services in 1980, said he was amused how a Rs 200 challan could create political turmoil in the state.

"What good is there to pay services and perform the best when police officials have to succumb to the pressure of ruling politicians? A policeman has to be alert round-the-clock, sacrificing the joys of a domestic life, and in return he is thrashed and slapped on duty and then booked under false cases," he complained.
