Chairman of Sawai Madhopur municipality district in Rajasthan was arrested by Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 15 lakh at his residence, police said today.

Kalmesh Jalea was arrested by the Bureau for accepting a bribe of Rs 15 lakh at his residence last night, they said.

The accused had demanded the bribe from a man identified as Makkhan Lal Meena for a commercial land. Jalea took the money through middlemen -- a police constable Amludeen and Ikram, they said.

The Chairman had taken an initial bribe of five lakh but later demanded 15 lakh to waive the penalty and interest for not depositing full bidding amount of the land.

Jalea was held last night while he was accepting the remaining amount, an ACB official said.

Both the middlemen have also been arrested, they said, adding that the investigation is on in the case.
