In a major breakthrough, Rajasthan police today nabbed the "mastermind" of a gang which was involved in alleged leakage of papers of competitive exams held by Rajasthan Public Service Commission from Bihar.

The accused identified as R K Singh alias Verma was arrested in Arrah town of Bihar's Bhojpur district by Special Operation Group of Rajasthan Police with the help of a central agency and Bihar Police, ADG Umesh Mishra, who is supervising the investigation, told PTI here.

"Singh is an inter-state criminal involved in major financial crimes. One central agency played key role in nabbing him. He will be brought to Jaipur soon," he said.

Mishra said Singh's name cropped up during interrogation of a member of his gang Amrit Meena and others who were arrested earlier this month by the SOG.

"Singh, who was active in Bihar and Delhi besides Rajasthan, had been providing papers of various competitive exams to Meena and others.

"Our team was camping in Bihar for the last two weeks and was successful in catching him today," Mishra said.

It is also suspected that the accused also used to leak papers of competitive examinations conducted by other bodies in different parts of the country, and more information is expected to be revealed during Singh's interrogation, he said.

The SOG is expecting to get an answer to whether any RPSC insider was helping the gang or they were getting the papers from printing press during Singh's questioning.

"It will now be clear that from where Singh used to leak the papers - from printing press or from the RPSC office in Ajmer," he said.

The SOG had recently summoned the RPSC Chairman Habib Khan Goran to Jaipur for verification of some facts which the investigating agency collected during the course of probe.

The gang was busted earlier this month by the SOG which arrested eight of its members including Meena, a government lecture who headed the racket in the state and had leaked paper of RAS Prelims 2013 held in October last year.

The RPSC had requested the DGP to probe the conduct of the examination after certain "doubtful and surprising" facts had come to light during analysis of RAS-Prelims 2013 results.

A detailed analysis of the results found that most of the candidates securing positions in top 50 were from one community and from a certain place.

RPSC has already cancelled the examination.
