To provide a safe environment to girl students, the Rajasthan police has come up with a project to bridge the communication gap with them and initiate timely action in cases of crime against women.

'Know Your Student - Know Your Police' has been launched as a pilot project in 19 police stations here and after checking the response from girl students and its effectiveness, the project will be introduced in other districts also, SP (Civil Rights) Rohit Mahajan said today.

"Under the project, police stations will have a dedicated team of three members, including two women cops, which will coordinate with the girl students of educational institutes in their respective areas," he said.

"The idea behind the move is to create an atmosphere in which girls may have a sense of security and are not afraid or hesitant to approach police on any matter," Mahajan said, adding the concept has been introduced in Jaipur from March 1.

The project will also help the police in solving cases of crime against women early, he added.

In a meeting with DGP Harish Meena last month, principals of various school had given their suggestion to develop a safe environment for girl students.
