The Rajasthan Police arrested two gangsters after an exchange of fire in Jodhpur district on Saturday, police said.

The incident took place in the afternoon in Mahadev Nagar on Jodhpur-Jaipur highway, they said.

While Sahiram Bishnoi and Yashpal were nabbed, their two accomplices, Bajrang Singh and Mangal Singh, managed to escape, police said.

A pistol, few bullets and a vehicle were seized from the spot, they said.

Acting on a tip-off, the police reached Mahadev Nagar to arrest the criminals but they opened fire at the team, Deputy Commissioner of Police Dharmendra Singh Yadav.

In retaliatory police firing, Bishnoi sustained bullet injuries in the leg and was rushed to a hospital, Yadav said.

He said Yashpal, who was hiding in the bushes nearby was also caught but their two aides managed to escape.

The police have deployed drones and sniffer dogs to search for the two men, Yadav said, adding that army police have also been informed as Bajrang and Mangal escaped near a cantonment area.
