Rajasthan police has decided not to celebrate Holi this year as a mark of respect to a constable who was killed in firing by criminals in Nagaur district on Monday night.

"The department will not celebrate Holi this year because of the death of constable Khuma Ram in a firing incident," ADG (Law and Order) N R K Reddy told reporters at PHQ here.

Reddy said police was on the lookout for the criminals, and added that "Holi will be celebrated in its true sense when the accused is caught".

Three criminals, being chased by a police team, had shot at them, injuring constables Khuma Ram and Harendra on Monday night.

While Khuma Ram succumbed to injuries in MDM hospital in Jodhpur, Harendra is undergoing treatment.

The criminals managed to escape after the incident.
