Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray today endorsed the cancellation of programmes by Pakistani Ghazal singer Ghulam Ali in Maharashtra.

Addressing reporters in Dombivili in the district, Raj said, "In Pakistan, if performances of our artistes or singers are disrupted, then why do you want their artistes to perform here?

"I am not opposed to art, but if the relations between the two countries are not cordial, then the repercussions of that should be understood by Pakistan," he said.

"To show our resentment, Ghulam Ali's programme should be cancelled here," he added.

The MNS chief also wondered why Indian producers and music composers work with Pakistani artistes when there were lots of talented musicians in the country.

Following stiff opposition from Shiv Sena, a partner in the BJP-led coalition government, organisers had earlier this week cancelled programmes of Ghulam Ali in Mumbai and Pune.
