Raj to release 150 prisoners

Rajasthan government has decided to release 150 convicted prisoners before time on ground of good behavior, age factor and serious ailments.

The government also decided to commute the term of punishment of around 3,500 prisoners.

The 150 prisoners who have completed two-thirds of punishment and have conducted themselves well or are suffering from diseases like cancer will be released on February 24, an official statement said.

Men convicts aged over 70 and women convicts aged over 65 who have completed one-third of their jail term would also be released.

Similarly, the government would also commute the punishment of 3,500 prisoners. Such prisoners will be released six to two months prior to the completion of their term of sentence.
 

The decision does not cover prisoners convicted under NDPS, Excise, Customs, Explosive substance, PCPNDT Acts, the statement said.
