Inspector General Rajan Bargotra today assumed charge as Commander of the Coast Guard's North East region.
Bargotra took charge following the retirement of IG K S Sheoran, an Indian Coast Guard spokesperson said.
After assuming charge, Bargotra stressed on strengthening the coastal security mechanism, and focus on the growth of infrastructure towards supporting expansion plans of the Coast Guard.
He was formerly the Commander of Coast Guard Region East, Chennai.
An alumni of the National Defence College, he shouldered many responsibilities, including principal director (Logistics) at ICG Headquarters, New Delhi and chief of staff at Coast Guard Western Region, the spokesperson said.
Bargotra is a recipient of the President Tatrakshak medal for distinguished service and Tatrakshak medal for meritorious service.
