To upgrade its cash collection system, the Rajarhat-Gopalpur Municipality today entered in an MoU with a private bank.

"This is for the first time in the state that any municipality has entered in a tie-up with a bank to collect taxes and charges related to mutation and others. This will also bring in transparency in our system," state agriculture minister Purnendu Basu, MLA from the Rajarhat-Gopalpur constituency said.

Earlier, taxes and mutation-fees were collected manually from residents of the area, he said.

At a meeting, the Rajarhat-Gopalpur Municipality Administrative Board also decided to enlist widows and old-age pensioners from the area for a transparent distribution of money and Rs one crore was alloted for the fund, Basu said.
