Cloth merchants observed a bandh and held demonstrations today in Rajasthan against the Goods and Services Tax (GST), which is scheduled to be rolled out from next month.
"The bandh was successful in Rajasthan against the Centre's decision to levy 5 per cent GST on textile. Due to the bandh, business worth crores of rupees was affected," A K Jain, a representative of the Rajasthan Cloth Traders Association said.
"We oppose the government's move. Textiles should be exempted from GST," he said.
In Jaipur, the traders demonstrated in front of katla market opposing the GST.
