More than 80 per cent voter turnout was recorded across 704 Gram panchayats in Rajasthan where elections were held on Sunday, a State Election Commission official said.
The voting took place from 8 am to 5 pm under tight security and the turnout till 5 pm was 80.53 per cent.
The elections were held for the post of Sarpanch and ward panch in 704 Gram panchayats of 17 districts, where20.61 lakh voters are registered, according to an official of the state election commission.
EVM machines were used in the polling for the post of Sarpanch while ballot papers were used for ward panch elections.
Counting of votes began after the voting.
