The official jeep of a Tehsildar was set ablaze by a mob in the Sikar district of Rajasthan, the police said.
The mob, suspected to be supporters of slain gangster Anandpal Singh, had blocked a road in Dujod area, police officials said.
Tehsildar, Dhod, Ashok Rinwa, who was passing through that area, stopped after seeing the blockade, they said.
"When the tehsildar alighted from the vehicle to talk to people about the matter, some miscreants set the jeep on fire," the police said adding that Rinwa was unhurt.
The road has been cleared and the accused are being identified, they said.
