Rajasthani dance troupe to perform in Egypt

A 10-member Rajasthani Folk Dance and Music group will stage a cultural performance for the January 26 Republic Day celebrations at the Indian Embassy here.

The troupe will present different folk dance forms of Rajasthan like Kalbeliya Dance, Ghoomar Dance, Bhavai Dance, Kacchi-Ghodi Dance, Fire Dance and TerahTaal (Thirteen Beat) Dance.

The way of playing traditional musical instruments of Rajasthan like Algoza and Morchang will also be displayed.

The visit is sponsored by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and supported by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture.

The events are coordinated by Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture (MACIC), Embassy of India in Cairo.
 

The dance group led by Eshak Khan will also perform at Al Gomhouria Theatre, Cairo on January 28, Alexandria on January 27, Port Said on January 30 and Ismailia on January 29.

Khan is a famous folk Artist from Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. He belongs to well-known family of Rajasthan, considered to be the descendants of Rajputs and Muslims.

They are highly skilled folk musicians of the Thar Desert. Their songs are passed on from generation to generation as a form of oral history of the desert.

Khan has performed worldwide including Algeria, France, Spain, Bahrain, Indonesia, Japan, Taiwan, China.
