In a throwback to the Kolkata of 70s, when English theatre traditions and joint families ruled the roost, actor Rajdeep Gupta now turns up in back to back period flicks capturing that era.

"While in 'The Play' I am part of an English theatre troupe, lorded by a thespian, in 'Bharate' (Tenant) I am part of a household in typical North Kolkata 'gulli' (bylane) where a young beautiful lady comes in search of accomodation," Rajdeep told PTI here.

Rajdeep, having got critical acclaims for his role in Rituparna Sengupta-starrer 'Mukti', world premiered in North America, said 'The Play' reminded him about the squabbles, infighting and rift in theatre troupes, machinations and schemeing but yet again the bonding, camardarie and fellow feeling at the same time.

"Me and Mumtaj (Sorcar of Aschworjo Prodip and Bhooter Bhabisyot) share screen space as buddies in the theatre group while Rajesh Sharma is the celluloid heavyweight playwright and the twist in the tale is a murder during the second half of play," he said.

In 'Bharate', a family entertainer with dollops of comedy, "I share screen space with Rituparna Sengupta for ther second time after Mukti. And I am fortunate to see Ritudi (Rituparna), Rajeshda and Saswata Chatterjee (in Rajdeep's debut comic caper Damadol) effortlessly expressing before the camera and then switching to the neutral mode after the shot," he said.

"Also working with young directors may be an advantage - starting from Ranajoy (RC) Chatterjee to Anindyo Ghosh (Bharate) and Manoj Michigan (Damadol) - as you can sense the vibes and don't feel intimidated. But again I am eager to work with big names of Tollywood," he signed off.

The Play will be released on December six.
