Rajesh Bawania, one of the most wanted criminals of Delhi who had virtually established an "extortion industry" in NCR, used to give his complete introduction to all his victims so that he can rule Delhi's crime world by spreading terror through word of mouth.

Rajesh alias Bawania was arrested last evening along with four of his associates following a brief encounter and a chase with the Special Cell of Delhi Police in Outer Delhi's Rohini.

Police will now book him and his associates under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).

"He wanted to take over the top slot in Delhi's crime world which was vacated by Neetu Dabodia who was killed in an encounter with Special Cell in October 2013.

Rajesh carried a total bounty of Rs three lakh on his arrest and was wanted by police forces of Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh in at least 45 cases.

"He had, in a way, set up an extortion industry, by trying to spread terror and used the fear acquired through this process to extort money from businessmen and other wealthy persons," he said.

Police recovered 11 firearms from the five accused which include a country made rifle of .315 bore fitted with magazine and five cartridges. The Scorpio car in which the gang was traveling was also found to be stolen from Sonepat, Haryana and it has been seized.

According to police, Rajesh entered the crime world in 2005 and till he was last arrested in March 19 this year had committed 24 heinous crimes. He had got bail on April 24 and within four days of being released he murdered one Ravinder alias Pauva of Bawana in Bawana Industrial Area.

"In the short span from April 24 till yesterday, he committed 20 further crimes. Rajesh and his associates, identified as Ravi Dahiya alias Lamba, Jaideep Dahiya, Rahul Dabas alias Maya and Sandeep Dahiya will now be booked under MCOCA.
