Senior Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala today said former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi left an indelible impression on the lives of people through his contributions.

Addressing a public meeting here after paying tributes to Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary, he said the former prime minister played a pivotal role in bringing Information Technology revolution in the country, the fruits of which were being reaped by the people today.

Hitting out at the BJP government at the Centre, Surjewala, who is a Congress MLA from Kaithal, said, "After the failure of 'Achhe Din Jumla', the 'New India' is the latest addition to 'political Jumla' of Prime Minister Narendra Modi."

"Due to the wrong policies of the BJP government, 35 farmers are forced to commit suicide every day. The youth are disappointed and the traders are facing recession," he alleged.

Surjewala claimed, "The farmers are not getting due prices for Basmati rice, wheat, maize, cotton, potato and sunflower."

He reminded the people at the gathering that when Rajiv Gandhi had visualised and implemented IT revolution, the then opposition leaders had said that it would lead to loss of jobs, but now the youths of the country are earning a name and employment at global level through this.

Surejwala said the former prime minister had reduced the voting age from 21 to 18 and gave constitutional provision to Panchayati Raj Institutions.
