Senior IPS officer Rajiv Mehta has been appointed as the new Director General of Police in Meghalaya.

The state government has issued a notification for the appointment of Mehta as DGP last evening, Chief Secretary P B O Warjri said today.

Currently serving as the Director General of Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in Delhi, the 1981 Assam-Meghalaya IPS cadre will join office in about 10 days time, he said.

Mehta replaces PJP Hanaman who retired on December 31 and will take charge from acting DGP S K Jain.

"I am looking forward to serve the people of Meghalaya in the capacity of DGP," Mehta said.

An alumnus of St Columba's and St Stephen's College of Delhi, Mehta had also taught for two years at Lawrence School, Sanawar, before joining the Indian Police Service.

He has also served with the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) as an IG.
