Home Minister Rajnath Singh today discussed with top officials, including NSA Ajit Doval, the security situation in the country, including the tension at NIT Srinagar and the denial of permission to an NIA team to visit Pakistan in connection with the Pathankot attack.
The Home Minister was briefed about the internal security situation in the country and steps taken to reduce tension in NIT Srinagar, official sources said.
The situation has been tense at NIT Srinagar following clashes triggered by India's defeat at the hands of West Indies in the World Cup T20 last week.
The high-level meeting also discussed the issue of Pakistan's denial of permission to an NIA team to visit the country in connection with the Pathankot airbase terror attack.
Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit had yesterday said that the visit of a Pakistani Joint Investigation Team to India was not on "reciprocity", but more about extending cooperation.
India had expected that Pakistan would allow a team of NIA investigators to visit the country after their JIT's visit here.
Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi, chiefs of different intelligence agencies and other senior officials attended the meeting.

Rajnath spoke to senior BSF officials at Munabao outpost of BSF at Barmer where he also addressed a Sainik Sammelan and oversaw security arrangements.
"Our Jawans are protecting our borders and the nation," he told reporters during a brief interaction.
Yesterday, during the first of the two-day visit, the Home Minister visited a border outpost in Shahgarh Bulj on a sand scooter.
He discussed challenges faced by BSF officials in guarding the border in an area with shifting sand dunes.
He also addressed a 'Sainik Sammelan' at Murar in Shahgarh Bulj area.
