Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh sent SMSes to lakhs of central paramilitary and police personnel to wish them on Republic Day eve as he urged them to maintain "disciplined and dedicated" service according to traditions of their respective forces.

The messages were sent on the registered mobile numbers of the men and women of CAPFs, recorded in a database, which was prepared by the Home Ministry last year after Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his desire to send his wishes to them post a conference of police chiefs in the Rann of Kutch in Gujarat.

"On the great occasion of Republic Day-2017, I take this opportunity to convey my sincere wishes to you and your family.

"I am confident that you will maintain your disciplined and dedicated service keeping the glorious traditions of your force in mind," Singh's SMS read.

Lakhs of jawans of Central Armed Police Forces like CRPF, BSF, ITBP, CISF, SSB, NSG and those from Delhi Police are on duty across the country and at the borders to ensure that the celebrations of the 68th Republic Day pass off peacefully.

A total of 777 police personnel from across the country were decorated with President's medals this Republic Day including 100 medals to those who displayed gallant action.
