Union Home minister Rajnath Singh will inaugurate the new building of the Central Detective Training School (CDTS) in Ghaziabad tomorrow.
Established in June, the one-of-its-kind institution in South Asia imparts in-service training to police officers from the rank of Sub-inspector to Deputy SP in latest investigation techniques and best practises.
Under the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D) of Union Home ministry, it lays special focus on equipping police officers from Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and other Central Police Organisations with skills on collecting digital evidence and improving their proficiency in forensics, an official statement said.
Since its inception, the various CDTS branches have conducted 146 courses and trained more than 9,000 police officers in the areas like investigation of cyber crimes, interrogation techniques, investigation of organised crime, handing of terrorist financing and Fake Indian Currency Notes.
Apart from these, it also trains officers in mobile forensics, investigation of economic offences, investigation of crimes against women, investigation of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances cases, crime scene investigation, collection and preservation of digital evidence, and other relevant courses to enhance the investigative skills of police officers to meet new challenges of crime investigation, it said.
The Rs 65-crore new CDTS building is built on 8.37 acres and has an administrative block, training block, hostel building, guest house, hostel for women, an auditorium, badminton court, gymnasium and residential quarters.
Singh will also give the trophies and medals to the best police training institutions and police trainers.
The names of 153 police trainers have been announced for the medal for the year 2014-15, of whom seven would get it tomorrow from the Union Home Minister.
