'Rajpath' came alive on the majestic Rajpath itself at the 65th Republic Day today.

Paying tribute to the capital's most famous landmarks lying on the boulevard, the Central Public Works Department in its tableau presented a floral replica of the stretch from Raisina Hill to India Gate.

Named 'Rajpath', the float drew a loud applause as spectators exclaimed with instant joy and jubilation, seeing their own city icons on display.

Made completely out of colourful flowers, it displayed the complete layout of Rajpath, from Rashtrapati Bhawan to Parliament House to Vijay Chowk to all the way to India Gate.

"The yellow and brown combination of flowers, mostly marigold, I guess gave unique charm to those replica. It was a true winner. The 'India Gate' looked so quaintly beautiful," a visitor said.

The float was fronted by a miniature version of India Gate followed by a specimen of the ornamental fountains that dot Vijay Chowk and a charming floral replica of Parliament House was at the rear.

A two-dimensional version of the magnificent skyline of Raisina Hill with the North and South Blocks flanking the sloping stretch leading to the President's House, as seen from the Chowk and beyond was embossed on the side of the float.

Several colourful tableaux depicting the rich cultural heritage of the country enthralled the audience at the celebrations today which saw a huge turnout despite a chilly morning.
